Hervey Bay Flats & Bay

Hervey Bay, QLD, Australia · Saltwater · Beginner

Sheltered by K'gari (Fraser Island), Hervey Bay offers calm-water sight fishing for golden trevally on the flats, longtail tuna busting bait in the bay, and easy family fishing options year-round.

Getting there & access

  • Fish from: boat
  • Boat ramp: Urangan Boat Harbour is the main facility for the bay — a Transport and Main Roads state boat harbour on Jetty Road with two ramps, a pontoon and floating walkways. Fraser Coast Regional Council also runs smaller public ramps closer to town at Torquay (Bideford Street), Scarness, and Point Vernon (Gatakers Bay and The Gables)
  • Facilities: Boat ramp (Urangan Boat Harbour), Floating walkways, Pontoon, Toilets, Fresh water

Urangan's two ramps have no low-tide restriction and have water and toilets on site. The smaller Council ramps vary: Torquay has water and toilets but is tide-restricted; Gatakers Bay and Scarness have neither water nor toilets, and The Gables (Point Vernon) is also tide-restricted. Check Fraser Coast Council's boat ramp cleaning and inspection schedule before relying on any one ramp, since ramps are periodically closed for servicing.
