River Wye
Hereford, Herefordshire, United Kingdom · Freshwater · Intermediate
A big, powerful river winding along the Welsh border. Hard-fighting barbel in the streamy gravel runs, chub under the willows, and a salmon run that was once among the finest in Britain.
Getting there & access
- Fish from: boat
The Environment Agency notes that the public right of navigation on the Wye does not give an absolute right of access to the riverbank downstream of Hay Bridge (except in an emergency): get the landowner's permission before launching or landing a boat, and before camping or picnicking on the banks. There is no confirmed legal right of navigation upstream of Hay Bridge. Fishing also needs the permission of the controlling club or landowner. Check Environment Agency guidance for current river conditions and restrictions.
