River Kymijoki

Kymenlaakso, Finland · Fly Fishing · Intermediate

A short, powerful river running to the Gulf of Finland, with rapids that hold big sea-run brown trout and salmon. Only an hour or so from Helsinki.

Getting there & access

  • Fish from: land-based

At Langinkoski (the lowest rapids of the Langinkoski branch of the Kymijoki, inside the Langinkoski nature reserve near Kotka city centre) Metsahallitus allows fly fishing only with an angling permit, and no more than eight people may fish at once. Native fish with an intact adipose fin may not be kept, to protect the salmon and sea trout runs. The season runs from 1 January to 30 September and from 1 December to 31 December. The state fisheries management fee also applies to anglers aged 18 to 69. Check the permit terms on Eraluvat, and other Kymijoki sections have different rules.
