Sterkfontein Dam Nature Reserve lies about 23 km from Harrismith on the Harrismith/Bergville road (R74). The reserve's gate is open 06:00 to 22:00 and its office 07:30 to 16:00. There are no shops on the reserve, so bring your own provisions. DESTEA lists angling among the reserve's activities but its page does not state permit requirements: contact the reserve on 058 622 3520 and check current Free State fishing rules before you go.
